Before we begin: PLR stands for Private Label Rights. If you're already lost, please go here for a brief introduction to the concept of private label rights.
Okay, let's get started...
If you're subscribed to a few internet marketer lists, then you'll have received -- and continue to receive -- lots of emails for various PLR products: ebooks, articles, software or collections of several products.
Sometimes you get them for free. Sometimes they cost a not-so-small fortune. Sometimes the quality of the product is excellent. Sometimes it's plain bad.
Either way, by now you probably have lots of PLR articles and ebooks gathering virtual dust on your hard drive and you may be wondering if you can ever put them to any good use.
That's exactly what this tutorial is about. It's a simple step-by-step guide to rooting
out that PLR content and turning it into a money-making, traffic-generating
tool for your online business.
NOTE:
If you don't have any good-quality private label articles or ebooks, here's an
excellent collection that won't cost you an arm and a leg:
|
You can use them as
content on your existing website(s) to attract targeted traffic via the
search engines.
You can use them as
content
on new, specialized, niche websites to generate income through Google Adsense
and other revenue-generating advertising.
You can use them as
content
in an autoresponder sequence to grow your list. (For example, a series
of articles on the same subject could be transformed into a mini-course
sent by autoresponder over several days or weeks. You can then promote
relevant products to that list and generate a long-term income source.)
You can use them to
create
new ebooks or reports to sell.
You can use them to create viral ebooks or reports to give away.
By making an ebook 'viral' it starts being passed around among like-minded readers, gets distributed on similar-themed websites and is offered in ezines that reach the right target market. In this way, your ebook can continue to reach more and more targeted readers every day -- long after it has 'left' your website.
By placing relevant links to your own website(s) and/or relevant affiliate products inside the ebook -- and then making that ebook viral -- you're effectively creating a little 'robot' that's out there every day, finding your target market and inviting them into your online world.
It's pretty powerful stuff -- even if you launch just one ebook. If you launch several of them, however, this thing can really build momentum -- sending you ever-increasing levels of traffic and income.
Okay, that's the theory covered.
|
NOTE: Do This ONCE and You're in Business! It takes a bit of time to complete your first viral ebook. However, once you've done the first, you've automatically completed over 50% of the task for all subsequent viral ebooks. First time around, you're creating the template. After that, it's just a question of filling in the blanks any time you want to launch a new viral ebook! |
Step 1:
Round up all the PLR articles and ebooks you have on your PC. Make a PLR folder in your 'My Documents' folder and place all your PLR products and packages into that folder.
Now, start looking though those articles and ebooks for themes that tie in with your existing online business (or even niche themes that you're keen to try out).
Again, if you don't already have good-quality private label products on your PC, here's a BIG collection that you can put to use right away: www.Private-Label-Content.net
Don't be afraid to think outside the box.
If you have a list of 10 articles on how to use autoresponders, you don't necessarily have to use all 10 and you don't have to just create an ebook on using autoresponders.
Instead, you might want to pick two or three good ones, combine them with a few others that deal with running an ezine, a few others on how to grow your list and so on. Hey presto! You've got the makings of an ebook on running an ezine.
Similarly, you could pick a good article on weight loss, a good article on exercise, a good article on healthy diet, a good article on vitamins and so on to create an ebook that deals with matters of health and wellness in general.
Step 2:
Once you've honed in on a set of articles, read through the articles you've selected. This is important. If your ebook is badly written, contains little relevant information or is full of errurs, then you've let yourself down right away.
A bad ebook won't go viral because no-one will want to pass it on to others.
So, read the content, edit it a little if you need to and satisfy yourself that it's good enough to be used in your ebook. (Bear in mind that not everyone who's interested in the topic may know it as well as you. Information that seems basic and ordinary to you may be a relevation to others).
Step 3:
Copy/paste the articles you've selected over to your favorite text editor (such as MS Word).
Format the articles in terms of layout, font, bold titles etc. according to your tastes. If you'd like to add a few images here and there to break up the text a little, you'll find lots of royalty-free pics here. (Only do this if you really feel it can contribute to the reader's enjoyment of the ebook.)
Step 4:
Prepare the opening pages of your ebook. Below is a suggested layout/sequence for these opening pages. (Take a look at PDFs you've downloaded from top marketers and see what approach they used. You'll find lots of ideas by doing that)...
Page 1 is the title page. If you have a graphic to accompany your ebook, you can include it here together with the title written in big (but not too big) text.
Follow this by a 'Brought to You by [Website name]/[Link]'. This can be brandable (more about branding later).
Put a prominent box on this page explaining that the reader has full give-away rights (reprint rights) to the ebook.
Here's an example of the title page...
Your Ebook Title Brought to You By
|
Use the second page to promote one or two products, websites, newsletters or whatever -- that are relevant to the content of the ebook. Use the full page, thus giving the ads plenty of room to breath. Avoid clutter and avoid putting in to much information. You just want to include enough information/relevance/intrigue to get the reader clicking through to your site. The same product(s) can be promoted at relevant moments throughout the text of the ebook or you could even place a small, subtle link at the very bottom of each page. Avoid putting TOO many ads inside the main content, however, as this may be a turn-off for the reader.
Place your ad(s) at the very end of the ebook also -- right after the concluding article.
Again, if you look at examples of internet marketer ebooks, you can study examples of different ways to approach this and find the one that suits you best.
On page 3 you may want to put a legal disclaimer (just to be sure), followed by the table of contents which will be a list of the article titles.
|
Here's a sample disclaimer if you need one... NOTE: Use this disclaimer at your own risk. I've seen this used in other ebooks and it looks good to me. However, I'm not a legal expert so what do I know.
DISCLAIMER AND/OR LEGAL NOTICES: |
Finally, you might want to write a brief introduction before the reader delves into the articles you've assembled. Depending on your articles, this may help set the reader in the right frame of mind for the information that follows.
NOTE: Once you've made your first ebook, you can use the same layout for all subsequent ebooks. Just change the details and you're good to go.
Step 5:
Once you've laid out your ebook, it's time to compile it into a PDF document.
There are plenty of cheap -- and even free -- solutions available now for turning your text into PDF ebooks.
Personally, I use the software available at PDF995.com. The non-registered version displays an ad when you compile your ebook. It's slightly annoying -- but only slightly. And it doesn't affect your readers at all. It costs just $19.95 to upgrade and stop the ads.
Another option I've seen recommended is the free office software suite at OpenOffice.org. (My PC and OpenOffice are not seeing eye-to-eye at the moment so I'm afraid I haven't been able to test it for myself).
Step 5:
Make your PDF ebook brandable.
By offering the readers the possibility to include their own ads or affiliate links in your ebook, you greatly enhance the chances that they will pass the ebook on to others via their website or ezine, thus making it more viral.
It's up to you to decide how much branding you want to allow. You might just have a simple 'Brought to You by [Name]/[Link]' at the start and/or end of the ebook. Alternatively, if you're promoting your own product(s) in the ebook -- and you have an affiliate program -- then make your links brandable too.
Either way, make SOME part of your ebook brandable so that more people will feel encouraged to pass it on. You can include a download link for the branding package in the title page of the ebook as illustrated in Step 4 (above).
There are two main solutions available for making your PDFs brandable...
Buy PDF branding software like Viral PDF.
Download
free software like
PDF Power Brand.
Whichever option you choose, you'll find instructions included on how to make text and/or links in your ebook brandable.
Depending on which branding solution you've used, write up a short Readme.txt or Readme.htm file that explains how to complete the branding.
Note: The folks at PDF Power Brand have included a video on how to use their software together with the PDF compiler at PDF995.com. They've also included a sample "Readme" file that you can adapt to your needs.
Now, using ZIP software, package the brandable version of the ebook, the Readme file and, if using branding option 1, the rebrander into one ZIP file. If you don't have ZIP software, you can download an evaluation copy of WinZip here: http://www.winzip.com.
Step 6:
Upload the regular (non-brandable) PDF and the ZIP package you just created in Step 5 (above) to your webhost. Make sure that the ZIP file location online corresponds to the download link you've placed on the title page.
If you don't know how
to upload files and make them available for download, you'll find help with
this
here.
Step 7:
(Optional)
You may want to create a box graphic for
your ebook. This will make it more attractive to those
interested in the topic and will increase download rates. It will also
increse the chances of getting your ebook included in the many ebook
packages being sold and given away online.
If you run a search for
'ebook cover' on Google, you'll find plenty of ebook cover products and
services. Alternatively, if you go to websites like
Scriptlance.com
or Elance.com you'll probably
find someone who will do the work for you at a very reasonable cost. (If
you go this route, be sure to check their past work before hiring
someone).
You might want to make a short 'sales'
page for your ebook. Even if you're giving it away for free, you still
need to 'sell' your ebook on potential readers. A short page with an
attractive headline, a brief introduction and a few bullet points
outlining the main benefits of the ebook to the reader can be
enough.
You may want to make that 'sales' page and/or the ebook graphics available in your rebranding ZIP file so that others can use it in their website or ezine when promoting your ebook.
Step 8:
Start distributing your ebook!
Here are some ideas to get you started...
If it's tied in with your existing
website's theme, make it available as a free download to your visitors.
Likewise, if it's tied in with the theme
of your ezine, offer it as a gift to new subscribers.
Locate other websites operating in the
same target market and offer them a brandable copy to give to their
visitors/subscribers.
When you receive ezines from people
reaching the same target market, reply to those emails and offer them a
brandable copy for
their subscribers.
Submit your ebook to the main ebook directories. You'll find them listed -- together with many other ebook promotion ideas -- here: http://www.ebooksubmit.com
And there you have it. A viral ebook of
your own, unleashed!
It might seem like quite a bit of work first time 'round. However, once you've done it once, you can do it over and over again with great ease. You could pump out a new ebook every month -- heck, every week if you're really on a roll!
Now, just sit back and enjoy the ride as your little 'robot' potters about, meeting your target market and inviting them around to your place!
My advice right now is to get started and do it - today! Don't put it off until the next distraction comes along. Follow the steps now and see it through to the end.
